Yankee Recap: Yankees Steamroll Mariners 11-1

The Yankees defeated the Mariners yesterday in the first game of a four game set.

How it Happened: The Yankees scored 2 runs in the second inning to take an early lead. In the third Hideki Matsui hit his first of a pair of homeruns in the game. With a 4-0 lead early, the Yankees kept rolling. Meanwhile, pitching wise CC Sabathia was lights out. Sabathia went 8 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 ER on a Josh Wilson homerun. CC also got his fist double-digit strikeout game as a Yankee.

Player of the game: Tie between CC Sabathia and Hideki Matsui. Matsui hit 2 homeruns and got 5 RBI’s.

News and Notes: Sergio Mitre will start Saturday for the Yankees, with Chad Gaudin pitching Sunday. Alex Rodriguez got the day off and may get the day off tonight. Derek Jeter acted like he had no idea that he had been hit by a pitch the day before when he was talking to the media.
